Due to the special circumstances of the elections for our Board of Governors being held several months earlier than originally expected, the elections concluding on the eve of a week of major religious observances for both the Christian and Jewish faiths [Palm Sunday, Good Friday and Easter for Christians and Pesah, or Passover Week, for the Jewish religion, (which began at dusk on April 15th and continues until dusk on April 22nd)] and the fortunate fact that there are five Tuesdays in the month of April this year, I have decided to adjust scheduling of the General Board Meeting back one week in order to accommodate all of these above circumstances and several others.
The Department of Neighborhood Empowerment (D.O.N.E) is proposing to provide immediate training and orientation for GEPENC Board Members on Ethics and other required issues for certification this Tuesday. However, we have a number of other issues that need to be addressed on our business calendar, including some items involving finances, as well as appointment of committees, etc. As incoming President, I also want to have an executive meeting prior to our first general business meeting. For all of the above reasons, this is the transition schedule that I am proposing for the next two weeks:
Tuesday, April 22, 2014
Special Executive Committee Meeting for D.O.N.E. Training ONLY
Thursday, April 24, 2014
Special Executive Committee Meeting to discuss transition administrative needs and agendize our First General Board Meeting
Tuesday, April 29, 2014
First General Board Meeting
Therefore, our general Board of Governors Meeting has been adjusted to convene on the 5th, rather than the 4th Tuesday of this month, and the Executive Committee will convene in 2 special meetings this week in order to ensure that adequate time and focus is being given to conducting our transition and general business with maximum effectiveness. All of these meetings will be held at the Cisneros Learning Center, beginning at 7:00 p.m. on each of the allotted nights.
I believe that this process will help to make our transition smoother. Thanks in advance for your cooperation with this schedule! Thanks also for your on-going interest in and support of our neighborhood council.
I look forward to working with each and every one of you!
- Kwazi Nkrumah, GEPENC President-Elect
